We were call to this apartment building about removing soot from brick. The building had burned and was badly damaged by fire. The interior and the roof were completely destroyed, but was being replaced. Fire had also damaged the brick, and the contractor doing the remodeling called Aspen Power Washing in Macon, Ga. about cleaning it. He had tried, but had little success removing soot from brick.
Accessing The Damage
After accessing the damage, we tried several cleaning products with no avail. We even tried cleaning with them at full strength, but it did not make a difference in appearance. Oven and grill cleaner is what we tried last to remove the soot, and it worked.
Applying The Cleaner
The oven and grill cleaner that we used was purchased locally, it’s made by Spartin and comes in 1 gallon jugs. After mixing the cleaner in a pump sprayer, we applied it to the brick. After waiting 10 min., we applied a second application and agitated it with a brush. We then rinsed with medium pressure. The contractor was very happy with the results.
